Your opportunity:

The LabTechnicianMicroplastics will act as the subject matter expert to support related research.

The position will work directly with other personnel in the Drinking Water Research Group (DWRG) to conduct microplastic-related sampling and analysis.

Under the supervision of the Principle Investigator, the incumbent will prepare sampling equipment, schedule sampling events, prepare samples for analyses, conduct analysis using microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, Pyro GC/MS as well as other appropriate analytical techniques as required in evolving research, manipulate/tabulate data, prepare data for use in reports and publications.

Your responsibilities will include:

Analyzing lab reports and drafting content for funding applications and research papers Overseeing day-to-day operational needs for one or more labs/workshops Performing lab experiments that requires great precision and attention to many details Providing detailed explanations and demonstrating procedures to students and/or employees on lab techniques, experimental procedures and protocols Contributing to research findings that are published in academic journals Coordinating routine maintenance of lab equipment Providing safety training and ensuring compliance to lab safety procedures and standards Approving purchases within established limits Essential Qualifications:

Master's Degree in biology, chemistry or environmental engineering or acceptable combination of equivalent experience Minimum three years of related experience in a research laboratory Minimum two years of experience with respect to the characterization of microplastics using microscopy and Raman spectrometry, Pyro GC/MS Demonstrated ability to prepare sampling equipment, schedule sampling events, prepare samples for analyses, conduct analysis using microscopy, Raman spectroscopy as well as other appropriate analytical techniques as required in an evolving research atmosphere Demonstrated ability to manipulate/tabulate data and prepare data for use in reports and publications Intermediate computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) Demonstrated ability to work under pressure to meet multiple competing deadlines Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment Demonstrated ability to take initiative and exercise sound judgement Excellent follow-up skills as required along with a commitment to maintaining research methods and data confidentiality Ability to work with minimal supervision, multi-task, detail oriented and have strong time management and organizational skills Assets (Nonessential):
