Your Opportunity:

The successful candidate will be a member of a team that provides Physiotherapy services to children and families, including assessment and intervention, provision of rehabilitation/consultation services to staff, and community.

This position also provides input into PT services and development, planning, and evaluation.

The Pediatric Community PT's practice involves health promotion and primary rehabilitation for children and families.

Travel to a variety of locations within Edmonton Zone, including home visits, is required.

The program has a strong strength based, client centered approach, using responsive interaction strategies.

Clinical areas of focus include motor development, play, as well as environmental factors (social, cultural, organizational, and institutional).

The position works with a wide range of client needs and developmental concerns.

As part of this position, the Physiotherapist will provide support to the integrated team at Early Childhood Intervention Program.

Duties include providing assessment, education, treatment, advocacy, resource finding, consultation and discharge planning for children and families in the Early Childhood Intervention Program.

As part of the team, the Physiotherapist will participate in non-client care activities including program planning, resource development, evaluation, quality improvement, research and staff development.

Description:

As the Physiotherapist I (PT), you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness and functional decline.

You will provide intervention (i.e.

prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, fostering resourcefulness, case management, referral and transition support to individuals, groups, populations and communities.

You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care.

The PT collaborates with patient(s) and families in determining, implementing and evaluating appropriate rehabilitation strategies.

You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement; partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance services for their clients.

You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community; participates in peer mentoring; and supervises students.

You may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides and Provisional Physiotherapists.

Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program.

Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Ability to be self-directed and to effectively work both independently and as part of a collaborative team in clinical and virtual settings.

Must possess strong assessment, communication, and interpersonal skills with demonstrated problem solving, planning and organization skills.

Experience working in collaboration with community partners and program development.

Must demonstrate a strong patient/family-centered approach to care.

A high degree of cognitive effort is required related to prolonged clinical decision making.

A high level of physical effort may be required related to clinical caseload.

The PT I may be required to maintain a standing position and perform up to a medium level of work (20-50 lbs.

handled occasionally) including bending and/or rotation related to client transfers or therapeutic intervention.

The PT I may sit for long periods of time on small chairs/stools or on the floor depending on the site.

Required to bend, pull, lift, perform variable movements and position changes (may be required to assume awkward positions).

Must be able to transfer and/or assist with lifting clients.

Initiative and ability to work independently in clinical and virtual settings.

Access to own vehicle.

Ability and willingness to travel to a number of community sites and client homes as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants with recent experience and/or familiarity with community agencies involved with the target population of clients in Early Childhood Intervention Programs or complex pediatric care.

Experience working in eClinician/Meditech scheduling and/or EMR is considered an asset.

Must possess a sound understanding of the determinants of health.

Three years of community-based experience working with children 0-18 years of age.
