Process Control Engineer

This position reports to the Lake Erie Finishing Automation Manager.

Requirements • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Electrical Engineering or related field.

• Min.

3 years relevant experience of troubleshooting, commissioning and maintenance of drive train applications (drives & motors) within an industrial environment.

• Able to read electrical elementary drawing and work on legacy analog drives.

• Able to use oscilloscope and chart recorder.

• Working experience with PLC and basic programming.

• Industrial experience with G/E, AB, TMEIC, Reliance drives are considered as asset.

• Knowledge of the Communications Protocols:

Profibus, Ethernet/IP etc.

• A positive attitude with an interest in expanding responsibilities.

• Academic or industrial experience with AC and DC drive control theory and power electronics.

• Strong computer skills using the entire Microsoft Office suite Job Skills and Knowledge:

• Background in Process Control theory including sampling, filtering, signal processing, PID control.

• Strong verbal communication, written communication, and listening skills • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills Responsibilities • Provide technical support, troubleshoot, and monitor the performance of variety of drives for each of Stelco’s production facilities.

• Upgrade obsolete drives, collect drive specification, obtain quotes, evaluate different upgrade solutions, work with vendor to define the interface between PLC and drive, commission and start up the new drive.

• Coordinate both the design and development of process improvements utilizing project management skills.

• Learn and understand the technology involved in Hot strip mill, Steel making and apply appropriate solutions to maximize operating efficiencies.

• Work with personnel from varied disciplines in a manufacturing environment toward continual improvement in production capabilities.

• Support the critical production systems in a timely fashion to maximize operating efficiencies with minimal interruption.

• Off-hours, on-call response to high-priority issues is expected.

Occasional after hours commissioning of new drive or systems is required.

Other Skills • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Project Management and Planning • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills • Industrial/Manufacturing experience preferred, steel industry experience a plus • Demonstrated analytical/mathematical abilities Work Environment • Stelco’s facilities operate 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

• Work in both office and mill environments for a high impact team.

• Safety is our highest priority and safety procedures and guidelines must always be adhered to.

This includes wearing PPE, such as a hard hat, protective ear and eye wear, respirator, flame retardant clothing and safety boots with metatarsal protection.

• The position may require you to work overtime as needed.

• Both a valid driver’s license and vehicle are required to work at Stelco facilities.
