JOB SUMMARYThe mandate of Roads and Parking Services is to provide integrated, safe and efficient maintenance of the City’s road right of way and transportation system and the management of parking functions.

You are responsible for undertaking minor parking reviews and parking surveys, including data collection, data analysis, preparing preliminary reports and plans of parking facilities, undertaking field checks of existing parking conditions, and mapping of parking facilities, spaces, etc.

This includes the preparation of technical reports on parking, including data summary, parking occupancy, turnover and duration; data presentation
- graphs, charts, analyses, maps, and plans; and the development of conceptual plans illustrating potential changes to on-street parking, off-street lots, etc.

You are also responsible for preparing and completing graphic and drafting assignments such as contract drawings from field surveys, pamphlets, flyers, presentation documents, forms and various departmental and city publications, and updating base maps and plan proposals.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCECompletion of 3 year college program in Civil Technology or a related field Minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation or related projects in parking, road design, traffic, etc.

Experience in the preparation of technical reports, drafting experience.CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCESCertified Engineering Technologist (CET) with OACETT is desirableKNOWLEDGE Transportation design techniques and technical standards Qualitative and quantitative analysis Budget and estimating process for roadway projects Research and data gathering and analysis techniques AutoCAD or Microstation ArcView 10.1, Map database configuration Municipal GIS system and applications Digital mapping methods Familiar with Microsoft Windows environment Working in a drafting office environment Road reconstruction and utility drafting Geometric Design Standards Ontario Manual of Uniform Traffic Control devices Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Read and interpret contract drawings, plans, specifications and guidelines to carry out analysis of designs proposed Proficient in the use of CADD Develop designs for roadway projects Communicate with various audiences, including external agencies and utilities, and to discuss issues of concern with members of the general public Develop reports and contribute to major presentations, reports and other documentation Conduct research, gather/consolidate, analyze and report results to management Work effectively with others Client-service oriented Capable of multi-tasking, managing multiple priorities and tight deadlines Ability to work independently Organized, efficient and productive Ability to work in a team environment Able to work well with others in a close working environment Provide a vehicle for transportation when required Work both inside and outside when required The ability to work overtime, including evenings and weekends from time to time, is a requirement WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Language Requirement:

 English oral, reading, writing Police Record Check:

 The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.

Driver’s License Requirement:

A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.

Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
