We are hiring an Engineering Manager for IAM to develop high-performing Go and Python services and secure identity and access management solutions used across all products.


From Ubuntu One SSO to Juju, LXD, and MAAS, your team will define how Canonical users, clients, and community members access open source applications.



This role offers an opportunity for a software engineering manager passionate about distributed systems operations to shape the future of identity management at Canonical.


Experience in IAM is desirable but not required.


You will collaborate with upstream open source projects and internal teams to deliver high-quality software deployable on bare metal, cloud, and Kubernetes.



As the engineering manager, you will bring significant software development experience, Kubernetes knowledge, and a keen eye for design, performance, and security.


Responsibilities include defining product technical vision, managing the team backlog, reviewing code, and mentoring team members.



You will also design software, write high-quality code and tests, conduct code reviews, document, and troubleshoot issues.



You will work with industry-leading teams, ensuring your work is supported by robust data stores and observable via our Kubernetes-based observability stack.


You will engage with open source communities through events, webinars, and conferences.



Location:


This role is remote in EMEA or AMER regions.

• Proven experience leading high-performance software engineering teams


• Experience with Go and Python development


• Ability to design and implement complex distributed systems


• Experience with container technology and Kubernetes


• Strong understanding of security and performance in software/infrastructure


• Experience operating large-scale distributed systems


• Knowledge of IAM technologies and standards (desirable)


• Excellent academic record from high school and university


• Degree in a technical field or compelling alternative narrative


• Professional English skills and excellent presentation


• Interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, accountability


• Willingness to travel internationally twice a year for up to two weeks
