Full time / Part time / FlexibleThe Competition and Markets Authority is seeking an analytical and innovative Business and FinancialAdviser to play a key role in their Remedies, Business and Financial Analysis team, providing important insights and analysis that will help remedy harmful competitive effects and improve consumer outcomes.The CMA’s mission is to make markets work well for consumers, businesses and the UK economy.
To achieve this mission the CMA investigates a range of areas and intervenes in markets by introducing remedies to tackle the consumer and competition problems we find.The Remedies, Business and Financial Analysis (RBFA) group provides business and financial analysis on our investigations, and leads the development, implementation, monitoring, enforcement and reviews of the remedies we impose to solve the problems we find.
Within this group, you will work closely with economists and legal advisers to provide commercial analysis and insights across merger, market, consumer, subsidies, regulatory and antitrust inquiries.You will develop your understanding of businesses and their strategies, working to assess their role in the market.
You will also determine and identify information needs, assessing whether market structure, business conduct and subsidy provision are harming competition or generating bad consumer outcomes.
This will involve engaging with companies and other market players to improve understanding of businesses and to gather high quality financial information.You will interpret and analyse this information effectively, generating clear and compelling outcomes that will be provided as advice for CMA decision-makers.
Once harmful problems are identified, you will play a lead role in determining and defining effective remedies to these problems, working to resolve harmful competitive effects and intervene on behalf of the consumer.You will possess a strong academic background with a degree or post-graduate qualification in either business, finance or an accounting qualification (e.g.
ACA, CIMA, CFA or MBA) or equivalent experience.
You will demonstrate relevant analytical and interpretive experience, showing key knowledge of business models, accounting and numeracy, paired with an ability to generate insights from complex information.
