We have been awarded the contract to manage and operate Skynet, the UK Ministry of Defence's (MOD) military satellite communications system.
This six-year contract, which has an initial value of more than £400 million, forms part of the MODs £6 billion Skynet 6 programme and will enable to sustain more than 400 jobs in the south-west of the UK.
Skynet Service Delivery Wrap (SDW) will encompass the operation of the UKs constellation of military satellites and ground stations, including the integration of terminals into the MOD network, ensuring they are integrated and supported.
Skynet has been in service since the 1960s – with the first satellite of the sixth Skynet generation satellite, Skynet 6A, set to be launched in 2025.
The contract includes the services necessary to support the current Skynet infrastructure, as well as the successful transition and continuous delivery of service for future Skynet operations.
Role description / task:
• Own, design and troubleshoot Enterprise IP Networks, driving change using the latest Cisco based technology, removing obsolescence and introducing innovation • Representing stakeholder meetings, Governance forums, Design Reviews and Security Groups as the IP Network Subject Matter Expert • Work closely with modelling team to create and operationalise Network Digital Twin • Work closely with engineering team to test and integrate IP Network designs in response to strategic and operational demands • Produce and maintain reference architecture and policies • Be part of multi-discipline project team • Proactive in your approach, youll have excellent leadership skills combined with the ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment with new and exciting challenges each day.
Required Experience /Qualification /Attributes:

• Demonstrable experience in a management position in the defence or telecommunication industry, ideally MILSATCOM but not essential.
• Cisco Professional Certification (CCNP) • Understanding of the Cisco technology portfolio including SD-WAN, Voice, data and Network Management Tools • Experience in writing and/or reviewing solution architecture HLD, segment architectures, reference architectures and roadmaps • Collaborative individual.
• Excellent communication skills • Ability to champion high performance and inspire others.
• Must be a sole UK National and willing to undergo security clearance Desirable skills and experience • Knowledge of JSP604 in defence or enterprise environment, QoS, SLAs, Spirent Test Centre • Experience of Non Cisco appliances such as Next Gen Firewalls, Encryption • Demonstrable experience of project delivery in formal engineering environments MorsonTalent SouthWestEnglandEngland
