Join the team at the Spinney Hospital; Greater Manchester, to deliver high-quality clinical service in our 97 bedded all-male unit.
The hospital offers comprehensive service for forensic patients covering the care pathway from medium to low secure and locked rehabilitation.
One of the wards has LD low secure patients and one is a 10 bedded PICU.
The Spinney hospital has been ranked as “ Outstanding” by the CQC on two consecutive inspections in 2016 and 2018.
It was marked “Good” in 2022.
This post is a new post and is due to start as soon as an appointment is made.
You will be attached to, and supervised by two of the consultants at the Spinney.
You will be expected to assist in the day to day running of the unit and the cover for consultants during their absence.
You will be primarily working with two of the five full time experienced consultants at the Spinney.
There is also another specialtydoctor in post.
You will have access to a half day of CPD on Friday afternoons.
You will be supported for CESR, AC approval, Section 12 (2) status if required, and study leave throughout the year for your appraisal.
There is an SAS doctors support group to connect you with colleagues across the company.
You will have opportunities for research and audit and will have opportunities to feed into a regular monthly medics' meeting and to grow your CV.
There will be on call duties with opportunities for voluntary paid extra locum shifts.
You will also have time off in lieu for the on calls worked, which can be taken any time of your choosing (as long as cover is in place).
Lunches are provided on site free of charge.
There will be great learning opportunities as you work with the multi-disciplinary team, which is comprised of the consultant psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, nursing, occupational therapists, social workers, forensic psychotherapist, physical health team, including a visiting GP every week and a nurse practitioner.
Your responsibilities will include:
Ensuring an adequate handover to colleagues including out of hours.
Reviewing the mental state of patients as per the hospital procedure.
Ensuring (with the physical health team) that each patient has a full physical health screen upon admission including physical examination, ECG and bloods.
Assisting in the completion of discharge letters and reports as required in a timely manner.
Depending on your experience, providing oral evidence at First-tier Tribunal and Hospital Managers' hearings under the supervision of a consultant.
Contributing to the service development by participating in Clinical Governance activities by conducting audits, research and teaching.
Work effectively with colleagues to ensure that patients have access to appropriate medical cover at all times.
To be successful as a SpecialtyDoctor, you'll need:
Full GMC registration Experience working in psychiatry within multi-disciplinary teams.
To be in good CPD standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists and to have had an appraisal within the last year.
At least 3 years' experience in Psychiatry Experience working as a doctor within PICU and forensic psychiatry (desirable).
