A well-qualified and enthusiastic Classics teacher is required for September 2023 or January 2024, to teach Latin, Greek and Classical Civilisation from Y9-Y13, together with associated departmental and pastoral duties.

This would suit an experienced teacher or graduate with strong academic credentials and a flair for communicating our wonderful subjects to young people.

An ability to participate in the wide ranging co-curricular and boarding activities of the school is essential.

The Classics Department at Charterhouse is innovative, collaborative and most definitely thriving.

The department has tripled the number of pupils taking Classical subjects at GCSE over the last two years and is about to introduce Ancient History at GCSE and both Latin and Classical Civilisation as part of the International Baccalaureate in addition to all three subjects at A Level.

We pride ourselves on the quality of teaching and learning.

Training and development opportunities in the Department are numerous with colleagues offering Classics training nationally as well as locally.

It is expected that the successful candidate will be able to stretch and challenge the highest attaining pupils, whilst also being able to use an appropriate range of strategies to teach across the attainment range.

Inspiring pupils through involvement in activities beyond the taught curriculum, such as societies and visits, is another enjoyable part of the role.

Founded in 1611, it moved to its present magnificent 250 acre site near Godalming in 1872.

The School has over 800 pupils aged between 13 and 18, all of whom, except for about 40 day pupils, are boarders.
