Technical Architect

Basic Salary of £65,000

Day to Day Activities Deliver application architecture and designs using industry standard processes and techniques to meet requirements defined by the business for critical production systems; Employ extensive experience working with relevant development technologies to design and deliver prototypes, applications, and interfaces to business-critical applications; Work with internal business and operational teams to deliver system designs in line with the technical roadmap; Undertake structured analysis of technical issues and translate that into technical designs Take responsibility for the architecture and designs, at a component or product level, using industry standard processes and techniques to meet requirements defined by the business for critical production systems; Provide technical advice and guidance both internally and externally on the architecture, design, and development of complex software systems; Take responsibility for ensuring development and testing teams clearly understand designs and ensure that implementation is as intended; Liaise with testing and operational teams to ensure the smooth migration of code from development to production-ready, and where necessary ensure that viable plans are created for remediation if there has been an oversight; Produce documentation as required by the development process as well as on an ad-hoc basis in line with departmental requirements; Mentor, support and provide guidance to developers in best practice, suitable coding patterns, technologies, tooling and methods; Drive the selection, adoption, and integration of appropriate tools and techniques to support the broader development process.

Work with third-party software providers to ensure technical alignment and the effective delivery of software components that integrate with internally developed solutions.

Skills Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Knowledge and demonstrable background in solution design and architecture.

In-depth technical knowledge in areas such as SQL and NoSQL databases, event and message buses, HTTP and REST API standards, and software and architectural design patterns.

Expert level knowledge in one or more of our programming languages including JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript, Java, and C#.

Familiarity with front
- and Back End software development and some of the frameworks available to assist (eg React, Angular, Vue, Hibernate).

Demonstrable experience designing complex software projects from inception to completion.

Knowledge of how to achieve high throughput through parallel processing and optimisation.

In-depth knowledge of microservices and service-oriented architecture, containerisation, and orchestration.

Experience of software development within an agile development environment, including implementing supporting tools or techniques.

Excellent data management knowledge and expertise for both structured, unstructured and timeseries data.

Knowledge of computing hardware and network infrastructure, including public cloud, and how this relates to and implications for software architecture.
