The Cambridge Commonwealth, European & International Trust (known as the Cambridge Trust), is a charity that works alongside the University of Cambridge and its colleges, providing scholarships and financial assistance to between 1,100 and 1,400 international students annually.

The work of the Trust is absolutely vital to these students, from over 85 countries around the world, and over its 40 year existence the Trust has helped over 20,000 students contribute to academic life at Cambridge.

Today, the Trust works with the University, Colleges of Cambridge, and many international and UK-based partners in order to increase access to the University of Cambridge to outstanding students from all parts of the world, irrespective of their social and economic background.

The Trust, which is governed by a Board of Trustees with a broad range of skills and experience, is looking for three new board members.

Under the leadership of its new Chair, Loretta Minghella, the board is keen to look widely, to ensure that its Trustees continue to offer a diversity of skills, experiences and vantage points to enrich the board’s discussion, deliberation and decision-making.

The Trust anticipates that at least one of the three new Trustees is likely to come from within Cambridge.

For the other two, a current or past connection to the University of Cambridge may be useful but is not essential and external experience in a relevant external institution may prove an advantage.

The time commitment expected of Trustees is roughly 12 days a year.

The Trust is looking for individuals with experience of strategic leadership and board-level governance within a complex organisation, as well as expertise in matters relevant to the successful operation of such an organisation, which may include financial acumen, human resources, communications, risk management, partnership management, strategic and financial planning, fundraising and organisational change.

Candidates will ideally demonstrate an informed perspective on the broader international and geopolitical environment in which the University of Cambridge operates and a keen appreciation of the Higher Education sector.

The Trust values a Board of Trustees which shares the characteristics of the student body supported by the Trust which is made up of people of different racial backgrounds, ethnicities, from different countries, who hold different beliefs, are of different sexes, genders and sexual orientations and have different abilities and disabilities.

The Trust would welcome interest from candidates from a diverse range of backgrounds.
