Join our team today!Job descriptionThe ChildLifeWorker will provide childlife services based on an assessment of the patient's developmental and individual needs, strengths and available psychosocial supports.
The ChildLifeWorker strives to promote optimum development of children, adolescents and families to maintain normal living patterns and to minimize psychological strain while in hospital.Accountabilities:
Assessing the developmental level, psychosocial and emotional responses of the child to hospitalization and illnessDeveloping and implementing a range of developmentally appropriate services to promote coping, optimum development and normal life experiences during hospitalizationPreparing children for medical procedures and providing coping interventions during proceduresMentoring and education for the multidisciplinary team related to child growth and development and coping strategies around hospitalization and/or the operative experienceParticipating in ongoing oral and written interdisciplinary communicationProvide in-service and community education as requestedMaintaining involvement in multidisciplinary committees and other service related tasksIntegrating research into practice and creating, utilizing and/or disseminating new knowledgeJob qualificationsBachelor's degree in early childhood education, child and family studies, psychology or related field or Master's degree with childlife coursesCurrent certification from the ChildLife Council or eligibility and willingness to obtain and successfully complete certification within one yearKnowledge of infant, child and adolescent growth and developmentMinimum one year of experience working with infants, children and adolescents in a health care setting is an assetAbility to perform work duties independent of other childlife staffDemonstrated ability to work in an inter-professional teamMust demonstrate Osler's Values of Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation and CollaborationAdditional informationHours:
