TEAM OVERVIEW:
Earth Observation at McCain operates as a new, independent start-up division under McCainFoodsLimited.
Through the use of satellite and other remote sensing technologies, the business unit delivers crop insights to McCain agriculture, farmers, and other non-competitive crop buyers to improve decision-making on crop production and agricultural practices under climate volatility.
The business unit aims to deliver data insight services globally across McCain and commercialize its offering for potato and other crops.
We are a new, growing team looking to quickly scale this exciting technology.
This team will advance McCain's commitments to regenerative agriculture through smart and sustainable farming practices.
Its growth feeds into McCain's purpose with sustainability at the heart of producing delicious, planet-friendly food.
JOB PURPOSE:
As a Sr.
SoftwareDeveloper, you will work in a small team with developers and data scientists to develop, operate and maintain our automated data processing pipeline within AWS to provide agricultural metric data to meet our customers' needs.
You will work on a variety of projects to research and analyze technical and system needs with goals such as integrating statistical and machine learning based models.
This role can operate remote-first if the individual prefers.
Hybrid and in-office work arrangements are also available within McCain's office footprint (primarily Toronto and Florenceville).
There will be a requirement to be in-person roughly once per quarter for team workshops and events.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work in a small team building new and innovative products in the world of agriculture Work with data scientists and engineers to ensure newly developed crop metrics are integrated efficiently at scale in our processing pipeline Continuous improvement of our pipeline performance, security, stability, and availability Continuously develop Docker containers Be involved with all technical activities within the team such as estimating, sprint planning, software development life cycle activities, code reviews, testing, deployments and documentation creation Mentor other SoftwareDevelopers within the team Travel within Canada at least once per quarter for in-person team meetings and events KEY QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCES:
3+ years of experience working in a similar role Required Skills:
Experience in application development, developing reliable, scalable and well-documented applications Intermediate to expert experience with Python Intermediate to expert experience with relational database solutions (Postgres, MySQL) Intermediate to expert experience in writing SQL queries Intermediate experience with Docker Experience with testing frameworks like pytest Familiar with CI tools like CircleCI, Jenkins, etc.
Valued Skills:
Interest in agriculture, food systems, or sustainability Knowledge of Python libraries such as Flask, SQLAlchemy, etc Knowledge of Documentation solutions like Sphinx and ReadTheDocs or other documentation solutions Experience with Kubernetes Experience with front-end frameworks like Angular, React Experience with Javascript Experience with AWS or equivalent cloud platform (GCS, Azure) Experience with data warehousing solutions (Snowflake, Redshift, etc) Familiar with artifact repositories like CodeArtifacts Experience with ECS (Fargate) Experience with Lambda Experience workflow management frameworks such as Step Functions, etc..
