Location : London England

We are seeking a Policy Advisor to work towards our ambitious goals of ensuring that engineering skills meet the 21st century global challenges facing humanity and that engineers and technicians reflect the diversity of the society they serve.

Scroll down for a complete overview of what this job will require Are you the right candidate for this opportunity The role Skills have made it to the top of every employer’s and policy maker’s agenda – with engineering skills more in demand than ever.

Whether we need to be better prepared for the next pandemic or ensure the transition to a low-carbon economy, engineers and technicians are essential to providing the tools and expertise to meet these aims.

As a policy advisor, you will be at the heart of developing and implementing our ambitious plans to ensure that the UK can develop engineering talent to urgently meet these challenges.

To achieve our goals, you will work directly with policy makers in UK Government, the engineering profession and education professionals to reframe what and how engineers and technicians think and act, make systemic changes to the education and skills system, and think of new ways to create more, better and diverse engineers, using a strong evidence base to demonstrate impact and change.

You will be an experienced policy professional who understands how to influence and drive real change for some of the most embedded and urgent challenges we face.

You will be interested in skills, innovation, and education, and capable of building productive relationships with key stakeholders including the Fellowship, educators, professional bodies and other organisations in the education and skills space.

You won’t need to be a technical specialist as you’ll be collaborating with some of the country’s best engineering minds – our Fellows.

But you must have strong analytical and project management skills, excellent written and verbal skills and a proven ability to deliver high-quality policy outcomes.

You will be a creative professional, always looking to improve our work so it remains best-in-class and relevant to the goals and values of the Academy.

Over the next couple of years, we’ll be addressing policy questions such as how we can ensure that the UK has the engineering skills to deliver on the UK's net-zero challenge and how we might re-design what it means to be an engineer for 2030 and beyond to meet both the technical and global responsibility challenges of our age.

We offer excellent support and development in a truly diverse and inclusive culture, which values all contributions equally.

Who are we? The Royal Academy of Engineering is harnessing the power of engineering to build a sustainable society and an inclusive economy that works for everyone.

In collaboration with our Fellows and partners, we’re growing talent and developing skills for the future, driving innovation and building global partnerships, and influencing policy and engaging the public.

Together we’re working to tackle the greatest challenges of our age.

With a diverse workforce and an inclusive and supportive culture, we look to attract candidates from wide and different backgrounds who have a passion for the role engineering plays in society.

Our aim is to make the Academy the best place to work for the staff we have and those we seek to attract.

Why work for the Royal Academy of Engineering? We’re looking for people who are driven to make the world a better place.

We have a dynamic, visionary CEO, a strong leadership team and an ambitious and exciting strategy.
