The Leader,ClinicalQuality & PatientSafety (CQPS) Education contributes to the highest quality of patient care through strategic leadership in CQPS based knowledge translation from theory to practice and ensuring that education programs reflect best patient centered practices and are evidence-based, high-quality and supported by available technologies and resources.
The Leader, CQPS Education collaborates with a wide variety of people inside and outside FraserHealth (FH), including FH Networks, Physician Quality Improvement, provincial and international clinicalquality & patientsafety bodies, operational, clinical and professional leaders to identify desired patientsafety and clinicalquality outcomes.
Develops, implements and monitors work plans/projects for FH system wide CQPS improvements regional improvement collaboratives), and supervise CQPS Clinical Nurse Educators and CQPS education project teams.
Functions as a systems leader and change agent, and is responsible for providing leadership, consultation and direction for practice education across FH.
This includes liaising with clinicians, leaders and stakeholders as well as representing FH CQPS education in decision making forums. Represents FH CQPS education on provincial, national and international basis at various forums.
ResponsibilitiesSupervises CQPS Clinical Nurse Educators, prioritizing and assigning work, reviewing performance and recruiting staff for this role.
As a senior member of the CQPS team, assists with the recruiting and orientation of other professional and administrative staff in the CQPS Department.
Provides education leadership, guidance and support to CQPS Clinical Nurse Educators through coaching, guiding and modeling key behaviors/strategies, encouraging dialogue and problem solving and providing guidance and advice to facilitate resolutions to education issues.
Works collaboratively with CQPS leaders, CQPS Clinical Nurse Educators, and staff to identify CQPS education needs and priorities, and individually or as leader of a team, plans, implements and evaluates strategies to meet those needs.
Contributes to the development, implementation and maintenance of competency-based CQPS models for orientation and continuing education of staff, integrating these with professional practice standards and the performance management process, as appropriate.
Responsible for assuring the development and updating of resources to support such education in order to assure staff competency and development.
Contributes to the overall leadership of new knowledge and innovation in CQPS as a senior member of the CQPS Team by fostering a climate of continuous learning, participating in the identification of CQPS goals and objectives and recommending new initiatives to the Director, CQPS.
Collaborates with the Director and other members of the team by providing information regarding current CQPS issues and priorities, proposing recommendations which will advance education in a manner consistent with FH's overall strategic direction as well as current priorities.
Provides leadership for specific projects to address organizational CQPS education needs, including use of new educational technologies, instructor/practice educator professional development workshops, support/training for preceptors, integration of education into practice, and education research.Provides consultation to organizational leaders regarding CQPS education needs and issues to promote quality practice education and staff development.
Develops partnerships with post-secondary education providers and healthcare training institutions to support student education and preceptor support at FH with a focus on patientsafety and clinicalquality.
Develops specific proposals for funding to support regional CQPS education needs.Furthers the goals of CQPS Department and FH with active participation at meetings and forums that address CQPS education issues.
Maintains and shares knowledge of current trends in education, patientsafety and clinicalquality care by reviewing literature, attending relevant conferences/continuing education, liaising with external organizations and members of professional associations, staff, and colleagues, and keeping abreast of educational technologies and applications.
Participates in internal, local, provincial and national committees/projects on an ongoing basis Researches 'best practices' in education and integrates best practice models from other organizations, as appropriate, related to practice education.
Performs other related professional duties as required.
QualificationsEducation and ExperienceA level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Master's Degree in Education (Adult Education, Education Leadership) or related field, plus seven (7) years' recent, related experience in a complex health care environment including progressive quality improvement and patientsafety development, implementation and evaluation, systems thinking, planning, project and change management, data management, and leading through adversity.
Current practicing registration with the relevant regulatory college or professional association in BritishColumbia.CompetenciesDemonstrates the leadership practices of the FraserHealth Leadership Framework of Clear, Caring and Courageous and creates the conditions for people to succeed.
Professional/Technical Capabilities Demonstrated ability to design, develop and implement CQPS learning needs assessments, curriculum, CQPS materials, a broad repertoire of teaching techniques, practice integration strategies, and evaluation plans.
Demonstrated experience in the design and delivery of education supporting the use of a variety of delivery formats including distance delivery technologies.
Demonstrated project planning and management skills.
Ability to lead and guide experienced staff in education matters and speak to CQPS education issues with senior staff and FH leaders.
Facilitation of organizational priority and goal setting, coordinated and collaborative planning and implementation.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to understand and communicate effectively with team members and others at various levels of the organization.
